The Institute is an employer-led organisation, with an independent chair, focused on supporting employer-led apprenticeships and T Levels.
We support employer groups, known as Trailblazers, in the development of high quality apprenticeship standards, end point assessments, and funding proposals for apprenticeships.
The Institute oversees External Quality Assurance (EQA) of the end point assessments that all apprentices must pass at the end of their apprenticeships. These show that they have developed the key knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be occupationally competent.
We have responsibility for managing the development and approval of T levels – the classroom based two-year technical study programmes that will become one of three major options for students to study at level 3 alongside apprenticeships and A levels.
Our work helps ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to maximise their potential and contribute to improving social mobility and the UK’s productivity.
We have two offices, one in Coventry and one in London and are sponsored by the Department for Education.
As a Non-Departmental Public Body, we are answerable to the government. However, we retain an independence that allows us to represent the views of employers, who are best placed to advise on how technical education should reflect the skills needs of the economy.
